Our Story

Office of Proposal Development (OPD) grew out of 2013-2016 campus strategic plan goal to generate additional resources for strategic investment. OPD was created to support large scale, multi-million, multi-disciplinary proposals of strategic importance to campus.

Our Mission

Office of Proposal Development (OPD) is a service unit. OPD’s mission is to provide comprehensive research development services to strengthen institutional capacity and help teams secure large-scale external research funding.

We help Illinois PIs and research teams secure external funding by:

  • Identifying funding opportunities
  • Supporting proposal development in collaboration with PIs, teams, and their units
    • Coordinating multidisciplinary efforts
    • Connecting teams with university resources
    • Crafting compelling, competitive proposals
  • Managing limited submission opportunities
  • Serving as a resource for the campus grants development community, sharing best practices and acting as an information hub. OPD leads the Research Development Community (RDC) at Illinois.
