Office of Proposal Development (OPD) grew out of 2013-2016 campus strategic plan goal to generate additional resources for strategic investment. OPD was created to support large scale, multi-million, multi-disciplinary proposals of strategic importance to campus.
Our Mission

Office of Proposal Development (OPD) is a service unit. OPD’s mission is to provide comprehensive research development services to strengthen institutional capacity and help teams secure large-scale external research funding.
We help Illinois PIs and research teams secure external funding by:
- Identifying funding opportunities
- Supporting proposal development in collaboration with PIs, teams, and their units
- Coordinating multidisciplinary efforts
- Connecting teams with university resources
- Crafting compelling, competitive proposals
- Managing limited submission opportunities
- Serving as a resource for the campus grants development community, sharing best practices and acting as an information hub. OPD leads the Research Development Community (RDC) at Illinois.
